Sovereign
Order of St. John Knights Hospitaller: Several readers have asked me about my Order
of Knighthood.
It is the oldest and is the first Order of Knighted
in the world having its beginning between 1049 and 1099. They were the Crusaders
who's purpose was to recapture Jerusalem and defend Europe and Christianity from
being over run by the Moors, Arabians, Turks, etc. They were the Army that
defended Europe for 500 years. There would not be Christianity, as we know it
today if it were not for these Knights.
It is the only sovereign Order of Knighthood in the
world, all other Orders are
Dynastic.
The Order inhabited Jerusalem 1050-1291, Cyprus
1292-1310, Rhodes 1311-1523, Malta 1530-1798, St.Petersburg 1798-1917. The
Treaty of Amiens gave Malta back to the Order but the British never relinquished
control of the Island.
The Knights Cross we wear is today referred to as the
"Maltese Cross" however the cross with its 4 arms (the four cardinal
virtues) and the 8 points (the eight beatitudes), according to a book written in
1728, was worn by Gerard in the 1000's.
The Cross has for centuries been used on the highest
military decorations of nations. A German Admiral, who was a Knight in the Order
for instance, designed the "Blue Max". The Order is international in
character. and there are Knights in countries throughout the world.
One cannot ask to become a Knight, they are chosen or
recommended for what they have accomplished. The Order is military and hospital
oriented.
Of interest to Americans is the fact that when
Washington's army was almost completely defeated, demoralized and mutinying;
French officers came here with 4000 trained troops and artillery. The Commanding
Officers were all Catholic Knights in the Order of St. John.
The French considered the United States as a truly
Christian Nation at that time and
wanted it to exist. It was these generals that planned the battle, deployed the
troops and artillery and actually defeated the British at Yorktown, giving the
United States its independence.
When the sword of British Lord Cornwallis was
presented in surrender, it was
presented to the French general Count Rochambeau who was the leader of the
French army. The British were well aware of who it was that defeated them. The
Count however refused it and said
"present it to Gen. Washington, it is his victory".
The painting of this surrender by the British hangs in the Rotunda in Washington
D. C., the French Officers are wearing the Cross of the Order of St. John.
At one time Monroe wanted to give part of the U.S. to
the Order of St. John in exchange for keeping the shipping lanes open in the
Mediterranean Sea, making it safe for U.S. trading vessels and also for
defending the U.S. coastline. The Order at that time had one of the finest
navies in the world.
N.Y. City
& the Boy Scouts of America: N.Y. City Schools Chancellor Harold Levy stated the
schools will not renew the $800,00 contract with the Scouts for their services
to 2 million N.Y. students because the organization discriminated against gays
and lesbians.
If the people of N.Y. have any sense of decency they
will remove Levy and any other left wing liberal hypocrites like him
from their school system.
